Went on a training run on Sunday with the watch. It wasn't fully charged and lost power part way through.

I went home, tried to charge the watch but nothing. Post review of Garmin 310XT reviews, it appears that there is a software problem with the watch and this is not entirely uncommon - even for fully charged equipment, i.e. to not power on again.

Garmin customer service was great today and will be sending out a new watch. Unfortunately, they can't tell me whether the problem has been addressed so it may be that this one is no better than the first.

I have read reviews with similar issues and have experienced it somewhat myself. From what I've experienced...when I plug in the device to charge, the watch cycles on and off, beeping every 20 seconds or so and never really charging. I have to keep adjusting the contacts on the charger and turning the watch on/off manually. After messing with it, it finally starts to charge. It can get frustrating.

When it finally is charged at 100%, I'll unplug it and the screen is blank. However, it is still actually ON and when you press the buttons it beeps. You'll think it's off, but if you don't manually de-power the device, the battery will drain.

That's what I have learned from mine. I've had it now for awhile so I don't think Garmin would send me a new one. So I just make due and cycle the power to make sure it's off when I'm done charging it. I'm curious to see if the new one they send you works. If it does, maybe I'll try to press them for a new one myself.

Stan,

I'd absolutely contact them and let them know. Sue Pirtle has been through three (3) of these watches and they've replace each time.

What they'll do is send you a refurbished watch if they can or new if they can't.

I've been using my pretty religiously for over a month, in all states of battery charge, with no issues thus far. I have swum with it, and ran in the freezing sleet/rain. So far, so good...I'll report any issues I have if/when they come up!
