Sue Lint and Kellie Kource headed downtown Thanksgiving morning for the annual 10k Turkey Trot. Sounds like the weather broke before the race so they didn’t get rained on the whole time and there were about 8,000 runners down there.
Also, Kris Armstrong was in Arizona recently for the Tour of Tucson, or El Tour. 109 miles around the area. Finished in 5:08:20, 554th of 4252 finishers at an average speed of 21.3

Sept 1-2 2007
Mike Rice – last week raced in the Milford 30K. A tough and hilly course, but a great prep run for the upcoming Detroit marathon. Nice job Mike!
Sue Lint-Pirtle – also last week, in Baltimore Sue did a 20 mile race on a “Rail to Trail” in the area. She said it was a great trail in a beautiful area. 174 overall. 3:24:43. Well Done.
Sue Lint-Pirtle – on a travel spree, this week did the 8mile Mackinac Island run. 17th of 56 in age group and 345 overall of 1005. 1:08:53 8:37/mile. Nicely done.
Don Zimmer – did the 50K Dances with Dirt in Hell, MI over the weekend and finished very well. 11th overall. 4:57:13 on a course that was confusing and tough to stay on track – running of trail through brush/woods, lots of ducking, dodging, climbing, and wading (1/4 mile up stream climbing over fallen logs, etc…) Incredible.
Stan Kravosic – went back to his Alma Mater to race with many other midshipmen from the naval academy at the Annapolis Triathlon. Just a huge race (1400 racers). Looking at the results, there were many cadets that came down from West Point to give a good Army vs. Navy feel to the race. The race was put on by the Columbia Triathlon Association and the Annapolis Tri Club. Stan ended the day in 48th of 159 in age group. Go Navy, Beat Army!!

The first race started Friday atop Mt. Hood in Oregon. 2 members, Kelly Stimson and Pam Brooks, ran in the 197mile 36 leg, relay from the Timberline Lodge to Seaside Oregon.
Team “Motor City Moxie” Finished in 30:09:18 at a 9:11/mile pace
Congratulations to Pam and Kelly!!!!
On a rainy Saturday morning a little closer to home, we had 4 members (that I know of) participate in the CRIM races in Flint Michigan. An absolutely miserable morning to run 10 miles. Congratulations to:
Sue Lint-Pirtle
Kellie Kource
Michael Rice
Stan Krasovic
and Kevin Thomas who beat his time goal for the race!!
Next up on Sunday was the inaugural Blue Water Triathlon in Port Huron. 7 members turned out to race in what turned out to be a great course. The swim really was in clear water; unfortunately it was in the fairly rough water of Lake Huron just north of the St Clair River – a little current, lots of waves and chop. There was a pretty good head wind for much of the bike course, but on good roads with light traffic. The run was along the shores of Lake Huron, under the Blue Water Bridge and then along the river. Congratulations to:
Kris Armstrong – Olympic 1st age group & 2nd overall on the bike
Kevin Merritt – Olympic 2nd age group
Donovan Stec – Olympic 1st Clydesdale
Paul Leonard – Olympic 2nd Clydesdale
Sandy Leonard – Sprint 1st age group
Tara Lindstrom – Sprint 5th age group
Debbie Romero – Sprint 6th age group
A few hundred miles away in Chicago, there were 2 members racing in the Chicago Triathlon: Bryan Sieber and Nicole Piersante . A Huge race, almost 4000 racers, right in Downtown Chicago. Fantastic results, way to represent the club in our new racing gear!!
Bryan:
Overall Rank 185 of 3928
Overall Time 02:26:55
Nicole:
Overall Rank 2912 of 3928
Overall Time 03:06:48
And of course, in the sweltering heat and humidity of Louisville, Matt Hotts put down a great time in Ironman Louisville. Upper 80’s and sunny, and a swim course that got changed at the last min due to all the flooding in the area, Congratulations Matt, you are an IRONMAN for the 2nd time!!! Seems like half the club was online tracking your results throughout the day and watching you cross the finish line. Nice job passing about 350 people on the bike leg. Well done!!

In Midland on Saturday, Donovan Stec nailed a 1st in the Clydesdale division and was good enough for 3rd in age group! This was at the Sanford and Sun Tri put on by 3disciplines.
Kevin Merritt represented our club well at the competition’s race. FAST (the far west side club) hosted a Tri in Novi. Sunday was a nasty day. The water was much warmer than the air, so the steam was so thick swimmers were everywhere on the course and could not see the buoys. By the time he was on the bike it was only in the low 50’s and raining – he said his lips were blue by the end of the race. Nonetheless, Kevin pushed through for a first place in age group. GREAT JOB!!
